I find this VERY disturbing. Did his position as Tribal leader help to do away with the restraining order?? The very reason battered women need restraining orders is because (usually) no one will believe (because of no prior criminal record) that the batterer will do exactly what they fear they will. And as Carverchick pointed out - 24 deaths this year alone bear that out. A batterer's domain, and his sphere of violence is his own home.

What happens if that home is a 536 acre sovereign nation on your towns border??

This is interesting considering that Deval Patrick has recently pledged to combat domestic violence in this State. I guess Shawn Hendrick's doesn't count?

From the Boston Globe 6/5/08

Alarmed by a sharp increase in domestic violence-related deaths, Governor Deval Patrick today unveiled plans to bolster police training and ordered a statewide review of the data to try to determine the reasons for the rise.

"We have a public health emergency on our hands," he said.

Domestic violence-related deaths have nearly tripled in Massachusetts during the past three years, from 19 in 2005 to 55 last year, according to the nonprofit Jane Doe Inc., which advocates against domestic violence and sexual assault. There have been 24 deaths this year.

So, let me get this straight...

Say, if he had been caught robbing a bank or dealing drugs, then his wife's concerns would have been considered legit?

But, if he has a scary meltdown in the middle of little league, complete with all sorts of words 8 year olds haven't heard yet, and regularly threatens his wife, he's okey dokey?

Do most batterers have a criminal record? I doubt it??

Something's not right here.

Where is my mace? My purse is too big. I know it is in here somewhere. This is so distressing. I can't believe this "judge" let him off like that.
